The Famous Palisade Plunge

Starting from the east side of the valley we have the behemoth, The Palisade Plunge.  “The Plunge” is a relatively new and highly anticipated point-to-point trail that descends from the top of the Grand Mesa (almost 11,000ft!), to the town of Palisade (4700ft), showcasing a significant elevation drop over its 32-mile length. This long descent allows riders to experience a variety of terrain, from alpine forests at the top to the arid desert landscapes of Palisade. Mountain biking in Palisade, CO is magical. Gunnison River Trails

Traveling south and west of Palisade along the Gunnison River you’ll discover Grand Junction’s least technically demanding trails. Known for gently undulating terrain and big views of the Gunnison River this would be a great place to get started if you are new to mountain biking.

The Lunch Loops

Grand Junction’s most popular trails are the Lunch Loops. Just 3 miles west of downtown Grand Junction and nestled on the edge of the Colorado National Monument, this trail system is known for its challenging terrain, stunning scenery, and convenient accessibility. The Lunch Loops trails are known for their technical features, including rock gardens, drops, and challenging climbs. However, there are plenty of less technical trails primarily found south and east of the main parking lot. Mountain biking in Grand Junction CO must include the Lunch Loops!

Just a few miles west of Fruita in Loma you will find the Kokopelli Trail System, just off I-70, it runs all the way to Moab, Utah. This ride is the “classic” ride of the canyons area. I highly recommend this one for first time visitors. There are many scenic and challenging loops to please even the most hardcore rides.
